Hugo Gurdon: Democrats on wrong side of crime, Durham report, and COVID-19 policy

The Washington Examiner’s Editor-in-Chief Hugo Gurdon pointed to the wayward ways of the Democratic Party concerning COVID-19 and crime policies while also calling the latest Durham report that suggests Hillary Clinton’s campaign spied on then-President Donald Trump “absolutely appalling.”

When Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo asked Gurdon about crime levels reaching a 25-year high, Gurdon said they are “having an enormous cultural effect” and noted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s admission of responsibility.

“Nancy Pelosi said in an interview yesterday, ‘Make no mistake: Community safety is our responsibility.’ And those words should come back to haunt Democrats in the 2022 elections later this year because communities are less safe and Democrats are responsible,” Gurdon said Monday on Mornings with Maria.

Gurdon added that the murder rate has jumped 30%, with 12 major cities setting murder records, as Democrats encouraged anti-police riots.

TRUMP REACTS TO DURHAM FILING: ‘FAR BIGGER CRIME THAN WATERGATE’

“These are not coincidences,” Gurdon said. “This is because Democrats have sided with the criminal classes and they have encouraged people to believe that the police are predators.”

Gurdon also said “the truth must come out” following Friday’s court filings from special counsel John Durham suggesting that Clinton’s campaign used federal agencies to mine Trump’s data.

“It’s absolutely appalling,” Gurdon said. “The idea that the operators of the federal state should be used, through contractors or however it’s done, should be used to spy by one party on another party’s candidate and then when the other party wins to spy on the presidency is an absolute outrage. It’s appalling political scandal.”

Bartiromo also asked Gurdon if he believes the COVID-19 declaration of a state of emergency is almost finished.

“The emergency, in reality, has been over for a while,” Gurdon replied. “Only six states now have mask mandates, and they are tumbling because everybody wants to get back to normal life. And Democrats are again on the wrong side of public opinion on this.”
