US Embassy in Honduras burned amid protests

The main entrance of the U.S. Embassy in Honduras was burned Friday amid protests, according to reports.

The entrance was set ablaze when protesters lit tires and others objects in front of the embassy on fire, though it’s not clear if the building was targeted.

The blaze was extinguished by mid-afternoon, and a State Department official told CNN the fire did not appear to be serious.

Medical and education professionals have protested in recent days in opposition to the government moves that opponents say will lead to privatizing their industries.
