ODESSA, Del. (AP) — Delaware transportation officials say archaeologists will dig at the site of a new highway before work crews build the roadway.
Transportation officials say archaeological digs will be conducted at sites across southern New Castle County before construction on U.S. Route 301 begins. The Delaware Department of Transportation says archaeologists will be at the location of one dig on Wednesday to talk about their work. The archaeologists will be discussing their work at Boyd’s Corner Road north of Odessa.
Transportation officials say evidence of an old farmstead belonging to the Houston and LeCompt families is among the items that still remain buried at the sites.
The archaeological surveys are being undertaken to comply with the National Historic Preservation Act because DelDOT is using federal funds for the project.
