Faves and raves by

Rob Garagiola

Maryland senator, D-Montgomery, running for Maryland’s redrawn Sixth Congressional District

PERSONAL STATS

AGE: 39

NUMBER OF YEARS IN D.C. AREA: Germantown for 18 years

NEIGHBORHOOD: Churchill Village South

1. FAVORITENEIGHBORHOOD HANGOUT

Black Rock Center for the Arts in Germantown

2. BEST MODEOF TRANSPORTATION

Metro and MARC. Our region has a great public transportation system, and I use it frequently.

3. FAVORITE LOCAL SPORTS EVENT

I love going to a Frederick Keys game with my family. It’s a great team, a great stadium, and a fantastic fan base and community.

4. BEST PLACE FOR LIVE MUSIC

The Stathmore. For years, it’s brought an abundance of great performances and cultural art shows to our region.

5. BEST PLACE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN VISITORS

A hike down the C&O Canal from Maryland into D.C. is always a great way for out-of-town visitors to enjoy the scenery and get a sense our region’s history.

6. FAVORITE MUSEUM

The National Air and Space Museum. Everything in that museum shows what Americans can achieve when we work together and put our best effort forward.

7. FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A LAZY SUNDAY

Spending time with my kids. Although, they’re an active bunch, so I wouldn’t really call it a “lazy Sunday.”

8. BEN?S CHILI BOWL, OLD EBBITT GRILLOR CAFE MILANO?

Ben’s Chili Bowl.

9. BEST RETREAT OUTSIDE THE BELTWAY

It’s always nice to go to Boonsboro and visit the Washington Monument State Park. When most people hear “Washington Monument,” they think of the National Mall. But the Washington Monument in Boonsboro was actually the first monument to George Washington completed.

10. BEST RETREAT INSIDE THE BELTWAY

Visiting the museums and walking the National Mall with my three kids.

11. BEST PLACE FOR LATE-NIGHT EATS

Nothing beats a few scoops of mint-chocolate chip ice cream.

12. PROUDEST PART OF LIVING IN THE D.C. AREA

Getting to serve the people of Germantown and Maryland as a state senator. Last year, I sponsored a bill in the State Senate to bring marriage equality to Maryland. It passed the Senate but failed in the House of Delegates. This year, we passed it in both chambers and the governor signed it into law. It was one my proudest votes.

13. EMBARRASSING PART OF LIVING IN D.C. AREA

There’s nothing embarrassing about living in the metropolitan area. But when I’m elected to Congress, I hope to help the people of D.C. get full congressional representation.
