BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut fuel cell manufacturer and Bridgeport officials are looking to strike a deal for a power plant that would be the biggest in the world to be run by a fuel cell.
The Connecticut Post reports (http://bit.ly/U7LNvj) that FuelCell Energy Inc. and Bridgeport city officials are planning a 15-megawatt project. That would be enough electricity to power 15,000 homes.

The plan calls for the Danbury-based FuelCell Energy to lease property nearly free for 75 years, but pay $175,000 per acre. For the next 17 years, FuelCell Energy also will pay Bridgeport $250,000 a year in taxes.
Fuel cells produce electricity in a reaction between oxygen and hydrogen. It’s considered clean energy because the byproduct is water vapor.
Work would begin early next year and the plant would start operating by spring.
