Fairfax County police are investigating the death of a 29-year-old detention center inmate who collapsed in his cell Monday night.
Authorities are awaiting toxicology reports after an autopsy Tuesday failed to determine a cause of death for Wilfredo Cerritos, of 13232 Berger Place in the Herndon area, police spokeswoman Mary Ann Jennings said Wednesday.
Jennings said she expects that report to take weeks to be completed. Cerritos was arrested Sunday night on charges of drunk in public andtrespassing, said Chief Deputy Sheriff Paul Maltagliati.
Police have said they did not expect the autopsy results to show foul play.
“We anticipate it’s going to be a medical condition” that caused Cerritos’ death, Jennings said Tuesday. Cerritos had been arrested several times prior on alcohol-related charges
He was in the jail’s receiving area when other inmates saw him collapse, Maltagliati said.
Cerritos was pronounced dead at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.
