Ted Cruz chides Beto O’Rourke: He would be a ‘lock to win a Senate seat in Massachusetts’

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, mocked his 2018 Democratic challenger, Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, in a tweet Wednesday, saying all of the left-wing support he is getting “would make him a lock to win a Senate seat in Massachusetts.”

The Texas Republican was reacting to a photo from O’Rourke showing Rep. Joseph Kennedy III, D-Mass., driving O’Rourke around in Houston.

“First Rosie, then Chuck Schumer, now Joe Kennedy…. Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s hard-left campaign would make him a lock to win a Senate seat in Massachusetts. #GodBlessTexas,” Cruz tweeted. He was referring to actress Rosie O’Donnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

Both Cruz and O’Rourke won their parties’ respective primaries earlier this month. O’Rourke, who is a U.S. congressman representing the El Paso area, has made waves with his strong fundraising numbers. If he were to win in November, O’Rourke would be the first Democrat to win a U.S. Senate seat in Texas since 1992.

There’s even talk about a future presidential run for the Texas Democrat, spurred in part by Kennedy, who himself has been floated as a future contender.
