Front-running candidate of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, said he is preparing to release a list of 10 to 12 individuals he would consider nominating to the Supreme Court.
“I’m gonna name 10 or 12 judges that I would recommend to put on the Supreme Court and I’m gonna name them up-front and I’m only going to take the judges out of that pool of judges because I want people to understand I want the values in terms of the Republican Party and conservatives — I want judges that they’re gonna be happy with,” Trump said late Thursday on Fox News’ Hannity program.
The New York businessman has said he would nominate judges like Clarence Thomas or the late Antonin Scalia, both revered constitutionalists in the conservative community.
Trump, who picked up more than 90 delegates in Tuesday’s New York primary win, leads the pack toward the 1,237 delegates required to win the nomination. His lead over Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. John Kasich is pushing him into a new phase of the campaign, taking on a more presidential tone in recent weeks and announcing a more policy-focused message.
Trump also told Hannity he likes the majority of the 17 Republican candidates who ran for the nomination and would like support from more of them, but did not specify which individuals he did not want backing him.
