Russia said Thursday it plans to close the U.S. Consulate in St. Petersburg, the office that Twitter users selected on poll taken by the Russian Embassy in Washington D.C., last week.
Russia said Thursday that it will close the consulate and expel U.S. diplomats in retaliation for American measures taken in response to the poisoning of an ex-Russian spy and his daughter in Britain, Fox News reports.
Last week’s poll came in response to Trump ordering the closure of the Russian Consulate in Seattle and the expulsion of 60 Russian intelligence officials after discovering the Kremlin’s ties to the use of chemical weapons against an ex-spy earlier this month in the United Kingdom.
The embassy provided three choices within the poll, including the U.S. Consulate in Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, and St. Petersburg.
