Ivanka Trump praised the Republican tax bills for increasing the child tax credit, but also said Friday that she hopes the tax breaks are enhanced.
“Hopefully the bill only gets enhanced from this point forward,” Trump said of the child tax credit provisions while speaking at an event on tax reform with Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, in Biddeford, Maine.
The first daughter also said that she was “incredibly excited” about the possibility that the child tax credit will be increased as part of tax reform, noting that working parents face increasing burdens in raising children.
The Senate Republican tax bill, introduced Thursday night, would increase the child tax credit from $1,000 per child to $1,650 and make it available for couples earning up to $1 million. The House bill, set for a vote next week, would increase the break to $1,600 and make it available to couples earning as much as $230,000.
Republican Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Mike Lee of Utah have said that the Senate bill’s expansion of the credit is not sufficient. They are seeking a credit of $2,000.
