Fox News host Laura Ingraham is undercutting President Trump for mocking the likely next chairman of the House Intelligence Committee by tweaking his last name to sound like an expletive.
“My view on this is being tough, that’s great, we all love a tough, strong president. But, you know, you don’t have to ridicule Adam Schiff’s name. There’s plenty about Adam Schiff you can take issue with substantively,” Ingraham said Monday night during her “Ingraham Angle” show.
Trump in a Sunday tweet referred to Schiff as “little Adam Schitt” Sunday after the California Democrat questioned the legitimacy of the acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker’s tenure in office, since he has not been approved by the Senate. That spurred accusations of hypocrisy since the president days earlier chided White House reporters for not exercising “decorum.”
“That’s the kind of thing where that’s just an unforced error,” Ingraham said Monday. “I’m not going to harp on it, but it detracts from all the progress, the economic progress, and the stuff he’s doing that’s good stuff. There’s no reason for it. I know it’s tempting, we all get in that mode. I mean, I’ve done it, too. He’s not advancing his own cause into the areas of the country, among women, among minorities, in my view, on that.”
Though a strident Trump supporter, this is not the first time Ingraham has criticized the president on tactical grounds. In July, she said Trump’s interview with the The Sun, a British tabloid, was a “ridiculous mistake,” because he slammed British Prime Minister Theresa May’s leadership while a guest in her country.
