CompuDyne reports 4Q loss

On the heels of winning $9 million in contracts, CompuDyne Corp. last month reported fourth-quarter losses of $456,000.

The Annapolis-based electronic sensor provider said losses equaled 6 cents per share.

Still, performance in the fourth quarter of 2005 was substantially better than in the same quarter of the previous year, when the company lost $6.1 million, or 74 cents per share.

CompuDyne also announced it had won a $2.2 million contract for providing security sensors for the Union County Juvenile Detention Center in Linden, N.J.

The company, which also installs bulletproof and bombproof windows and doors, is in the process of upgrading 280 U.S. embassies around the world, said Martin Roenigk, CompuDyne president and chief executive.

Roenigk was upbeat, however, and said that some of the losses were due to bad project management. He also touted the company?s recently won contracts, including a $1.1 million contract with the Nebraska State Patrol to provide a statewide computer-aided dispatch system.

“It affects us favorably,” Roenigk said.
