WINTHROP HARBOR, Ill. (AP) — A north suburban accountant was sworn in to replace a veteran Illinois lawmaker and assistant House minority leader has resigned her post.
Sheri Jesiel is a Winthrop Harbor Republican. She was sworn into office by a Lake County Judge Wednesday afternoon.
Antioch Republican Rep. JoAnn Osmond submitted her resignation last week. It was effective Tuesday.
The 68-year-old Osmond was appointed in December 2002 to replace her late husband, Tim, who died of a heart attack at age 53. She said last summer she would not seek another term this fall.
Osmond was the ranking Republican on the House Human Services Committee and serves on the Public Safety Appropriations Committee, among other assignments.
Jesiel faces Winthrop Harbor Democrat Loren Karner on the November ballot.
