Friday: Film Screening of “Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance” at the Black Cat

Hilarious deadpan comedian and proclaimed metal head Brian Posehn is set to perform for two evenings this weekend. If the holidays are getting you down or you just need a break from all the chaos, Posehn will help put things in perspective.

Friday and Saturday: “Scrooged” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” at Artisphere
There is no shortage of opportunities to see “It’s a Wonderful Life” in the Washington area. The folks at Artisphere present the Jimmy Stewart classic on Saturday at the Dome Theatre in Rosslyn. If that isn’t your cup of tea, on Friday check out Bill Murray’s “Scrooged,” a modern take on the Charles Dickens classic.

Saturday: Virginia Coalition’s “Rock-A-Pocalypse” at the 9:30 Club
The popular rock band originally from Alexandria is set to play this post-apocalypse show at the 9:30 Club. If we all actually do survive Friday’s apocalypse, what better way to rejoice that to catch Virginia Coalition live? And if we don’t survive the apocalypse, well, nevermind. This lineup includes another excellent local in Taylor Carson, who’s worth the price of admission himself; and fellow area act FeelFree.

Sunday: “Home Alone” at the Arlington Cinema N Drafthouse
This is not your typical Drafthouse film screening, but something special for the holidays. The Raspberry Brothers will provide live comedy commentary over the movie, kind of like “Mystery Science Theater 3000.” OK, that reference is as old as “Home Alone,” but whatever, this should be a fun night that will both tickle your funny bone and warm your heart.
