James Shaw Jr., the man who stopped a gunman who opened fire at a Waffle House in Tennessee last month, said his phone call with President Trump this week was “a little lackluster.”
During an interview with TMZ, Shaw said the conversation was “brief” and “straight to the point.”
“The conversation was a little lackluster, to be honest with you,” Shaw said. “I know he’s very busy with what’s going on in the world. And like I said, I did this for no recognition at all, so I do thank him for calling me out of his busy schedule.”
He also said he was “just happy” he got to speak with Trump.
Shaw rushed and disarmed a suspected gunman, Travis Reinking, when he opened fire with an AR-15 rifle at a Nashville-area Waffle House last month. Shaw wrestled the firearm away from Reinking when he went to reload his gun. Four people were killed and at least seven were injured in the shooting.
During their phone call, Trump praised Shaw for his “heroic actions and quick thinking,” according to the White House.
