Simone Biles says she’s ‘very much pro-choice’

Olympic gymnast and four-time gold medalist Simone Biles is “very much pro-choice,” she said Monday.

Biles, who has been under scrutiny following her withdrawal from several events at the Tokyo Olympics for mental health reasons, acknowledged that while it “is going to start the biggest argument,” she is pro-abortion rights.

“I already know this is going to start the biggest argument & may even lose followers BUT. I’m very much pro-choice,” she said on Instagram. “Your body. Your choice.”

Biles retorted at critics who suggested that adoption is a better option than terminating a pregnancy.

“It’s not that easy & coming from someone who was in the foster care system TRUST me. & adoption is expensive…I’m just saying. Foster care system is broken & it’s TOUGH,” she wrote. “Especially on the kids & young adults who age out.”

Biles’s remarks have drawn both criticism and praise from the online community.

Live Action President Lila Rose called the gymnast’s remarks “incredibly sad and awful.”

“To have overcome a broken system as triumphantly as she has — yet wish death for other kids bc they may face foster care is beyond fathoming,” she wrote.
