Sen. Marco Rubio blasted Hillary Clinton Wednesday for her handling of a hearing before the House Select Committee on Benghazi last week that was widely perceived as a victory for her presidential campaign.
The Florida Republican slammed the press during the third GOP primary debate Wednesday evening for touting Clinton’s appearance as a political win.
“The mainstream media is going around saying it was the greatest week in Hillary Clinton’s campaign,” Rubio said. “It was the week she got exposed as a liar.”
He highlighted evidence that emerged in the hearing that indicated Clinton knew the 2012 terror attack was not prompted by a spontaneous protest despite telling the public it was.
“She admitted she had sent emails to her family saying, ‘Hey, this attack on Benghazi was caused by al Qaeda-like elements,'” Rubio said during the third GOP primary debate Wednesday evening. “She spent over a week telling the families of those victims and the American people that it was because of a video.”
Clinton struggled to answer questions last week about why she had publicly blamed the Benghazi attack on a response to a YouTube clip given emails that demonstrated her knowledge of the the terrorists groups that targeted the U.S. diplomatic compound.
