CNN host John King unloaded on Rep. Devin Nunes after watching him dodge a question about his association with a former Ukrainian prosecutor by accusing the network of “criminal activity.”
King explained Monday that Nunes has threatened to sue several media outlets, including CNN, over reports that Rudy Giuliani’s now-arrested associate Lev Parnas is willing to tell Congress that the California Republican had traveled to Vienna to get dirt from a Ukrainian official about Joe Biden on the taxpayer’s dime. Nunes denied any wrongdoing but has made it clear he’s outraged by the reports.
King then aired a clip of Nunes from Sunday Morning Futures in which he refused to answer any questions about his relationship with Parnas.
“I really want to answer all of these questions, and I promise you I absolutely will come back on the show and answer these questions, but because there is criminal activity here, we’re working with the appropriate law enforcement agencies, we’re going to file all this, everyone is going to know the truth, everybody is going to know all the facts, but I think you can understand that I can’t compete by trying to debate this out with the public media when 90% of the media are totally corrupt,” Nunes said on Sunday.
King was disgusted with Nunes’s response, calling it “horseshit.”
“Forgive me, but horseshit. This is easy. This is easy. He was on a plane with staff that went somewhere during this time frame. There are either passports stamped, or if they did it on a classified basis, there’s a crew on the plane. There’s the crew of his staff. He could go into a meeting with the Group of 8, including the Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and say this never happen and force a Democratic speaker to issue a statement and say, ‘We looked at the documentation, and he demonstrated this is demonstrably false.’”
King added, “If it’s demonstrably false, demonstrate it.”
Nunes, 46, will likely face a House ethics investigation over the alleged trip and his decision not to recuse himself as ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee during the impeachment hearings if he was involved in Trump’s effort to get information on the Bidens. Parnas has signaled that he is ready to speak to Congress about his relationship with Nunes.
