Hearing into Gray’s hiring, salary decisions to split over 2 days

At-large D.C. Councilman David Catania says holding hearings on the Vince Gray administration’s hiring and salary decisions over two days may damage the credibility of the testimonies given by key witnesses.

The first day of hearings on Monday looks likely to be less dramatic than the second, when members of the Gray for Mayor campaign accused of making a quid-pro-quo deal with Sulaimon Brown will testify. Brown himself is also scheduled for the second hearing, but is currently sitting in council chambers as Monday’s hearing goes forward.

“They’ll have the opportunity to review testimonies here today and make whatever accomodations they’d like,” Catania said of the witnesses scheduled to testify on April 7.

Ward 3 Councilwoman Mary Cheh, who called the hearings, said many of those not testifying Monday have yet to meet with federal investigator and she has given deference to them.

Here’s who is scheduled to testify on Monday:

Charles Willoughby, D.C. Inspector General

Reuben Charles, (Gray for Mayor campaing/transition manager)

Talib Karim, (former Chief of Staff, Dept. Of Health Care Finance)

Mohammad Ahkter, (Director Dept. Of Health)

Judy Banks, (Interim director, Dept. Of Human Resources)
