RUSKIN, Fla. (AP) — Amazon’s second regional fulfillment center in Florida is up and running.
The Internet retailer says that the new Ruskin center shipped its first item, a Disney Frozen doll, on Sept. 24 to a customer in New York.
Employees at the 1-million-square-foot, Hillsborough County warehouse will pick, pack and ship small items, such as books, DVDs and other consumer goods.
Florida’s first fulfillment center opened in August in Polk County. The Lakeland facility handles large items.
As part of a deal with Florida officials to bring a physical presence to the state, the Seattle-based company has been collecting Florida’s 6 percent sales tax from residents since May.
