Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci accused President Trump of committing treason by asking Ukraine to investigate his political rival Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.
Scaramucci, who was fired after less than two weeks in his White House role, said Trump made a “mistake” by asking Ukraine behind closed doors to look into the Bidens. He said the president had normalized his previous “traitorous behavior” by requesting such favors “out in the open.”
“If @realDonaldTrump instead had a press conference and said ‘Ukraine, if you’re listening, investigate Hunter Biden or I’m withholding your aid,’ the current situation would be framed much differently. I missed it for too long. We cannot normalize treason,” Scaramucci tweeted Thursday.
“By openly asking China to investigate the Bidens he is trying to water down the Ukraine scandal. He is trying to normalize the nefarious activity,” he continued.

Trump suggested earlier Thursday at the White House that China should investigate the former vice president and his son. The comments came about a week after Democrats launched an impeachment inquiry into a similar request Trump made in a July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In July 2016, during the presidential election, Trump invited Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails and make them public. “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Trump said, referring to emails the former secretary of state had deleted from a private account.
That same day, the Russians tried to break into the servers used by Clinton’s personal office, an indictment filed by special counsel Robert Mueller’s office during the investigation into Russian interference in the election alleged.
Trump told Mueller in written responses to the special counsel’s questions that he made the comment about Russia “in jest and sarcastically.”
