Tim Scott roasts Huffington Post writer for calling him a ‘prop’ at Trump’s tax cut speech

Sen. Tim Scott on Wednesday fired back at a Twitter user who said the only reason he got to stand next to President Trump during the GOP’s tax reform celebration is because he is black.

Andy Ostroy, a Huffington Post contributor, tweeted about the South Carolina Republican: “What a shocker… there’s ONE black person there and sure enough they have him standing right next to the mic like a manipulated prop. Way to go @SenatorTimScott. #trump #taxscambill.”

Scott stood to the right of President Trump on the South Lawn of the White House as he and Republican leaders celebrated their tax reform bill clearing its final hurdle in Congress.

But Scott said in his own tweet that he played a key role in getting the tax bill through the Senate.

“Uh probably because I helped write the bill for the past year, have multiple provisions included, got multiple Senators on board over the last week and have worked on tax reform my entire time in Congress,” Scott wrote. “But if you’d rather just see my skin color, pls feel free.”

Scott served on the tax bill conference committee. He is the only black Republican in the Senate.
