Pizza Hut apologizes for ketchup bottles reading ‘Shake, Squeeze and Squirt’

Pizza Hut apologized after a customer complained about ketchup bottles in the restaurant that he says had a sexually explicit message on them.

Adrian Shann, 31, of Hull, in the United Kingdom, complained about the bottles, which read “Shake, Squeeze and Squirt” on the label, to Hull Live. He said he was worried about the impression the bottles would have on children.

“The barbecue sauce one said ‘Squeeze,’ but the ketchup one said ‘Shake, Squeeze and Squirt.’ It put me off using it,” Shann said. “It literally sounds like an app for swingers. I do not understand how someone could put that sentence together. It’s awful.”

Shann said he noticed the logo in his first time dining at Pizza Hut. He said there was a family eating there at the same time as him.

“The adults had a laugh, and then the children were asking their parents to tell them about it. If I had my niece with me, I would be worried. It’s definitely not appropriate,” he explained.

Pizza Hut responded to the customer’s complaint in a statement obtained by Hull Live, apologizing for any offense the ketchup caused.

“I can only apologize if you were caused any offense or upset on your recent visit to our Hut, please know it is not our intention to make any of our guests feel uncomfortable,” the statement read. “The wording on our ketchup is not meant to cause offense and sorry if this was interpreted this way.”

“This has been the labeling of all ketchup bottles in our restaurants for some time now, and I can only apologize if this impacted the enjoyment of your [meal],” the statement continued.

Shann said he was not satisfied with the company’s response and reportedly contacted MP Emma Hardy to push the matter further.

“I am not happy with their response. I cannot imagine anyone looking at that sauce as tomato ketchup again,” he said. “It is sexualized and even more so now they didn’t deserve my custom. I felt like I was ripped off from the brothel because I never got a chance to squirt.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to Pizza Hut for a comment but did not receive an immediate reply.
