A body and car were found in a California reservoir on Sunday near the campground where 16-year-old Kiely Rodni was last seen.
Search and recovery dive team company Adventures With Purpose claimed on Sunday that Rodni’s body was inside an SUV under 14 feet of water in Prosser Creek Reservoir in Truckee, California. Law enforcement officials have not confirmed Rodni’s body was the one inside the vehicle. Authorities will hold a press conference Monday afternoon where they are expected to provide an update on the search.

“This afternoon, we were notified by volunteer search group Adventures with Purpose they have found a car and a body in the Prosser Reservoir. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, FBI and allied agencies are at the scene to investigate the findings,” the Placer County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a statement.
“The identity of the decedent has not been confirmed. This is a developing situation, and we will provide updates when we can,” the statement continued.
POLICE RELEASE LAST KNOWN IMAGE OF MISSING CALIFORNIA TEENAGER KIELY RODNI
Rodni was last seen on Aug. 6 at a party at Prosser Family Campground attended by as many as 300 people. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is treating her disappearance as an abduction. Her silver 2013 Honda CRV SUV is also missing.
Over 100 law enforcement officers, including the FBI, have been involved in the search for the teenager. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office have conducted searches on the ground, by aerial helicopter, and in surrounding water areas.
Adventures With Purpose joined the search for Rodni on Friday, using sonar to search the water in the reservoir, according to local news outlet KCRA.
“WE JUST FOUND KIELY RODNI,” Adventures With Purpose said in a Facebook post on Sunday, adding that the company has notified the family and contacted law enforcement.
Some community members told KCRA on Sunday that they were bothered it took Adventures With Purpose to become involved in the search for there to be a potential break in the case.
“For [law enforcement] to not be able to find her, it bothers me a little, honestly,” Truckee resident Gitana DeCoulode said. “Why don’t they have the equipment that [Adventures With Purpose] had, to find her? Why? Where we live, we have bodies of water everywhere.”

However, Reno resident Greg Bishop told KCRA that he was satisfied with the work done by law enforcement in the search.
“I don’t fault law enforcement in any way. I know they put in thousands of hours in searching,” Bishop said. “Adventures with Purpose just has a specialty. They have the knowledge in reading their sonar equipment.”
