Chris Evans congratulated a little boy who saved his sister from a vicious dog.
The Captain America star sent a video to 6-year-old Bridger, introducing himself as his Marvel superhero character. The boy’s aunt posted a video of Evans’s message along with Bridger’s response.
Bridger watched the clip while wearing a Captain America costume.
“Let me be the next one to tell you, pal, you’re a hero,” the actor said. “What you did was so brave, so selfless. Your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you!”
He added, “Keep being the man you are. We need people like you.”
Evans also promised to send Bridger an authentic Captain America shield, to which his sister exclaimed in excitement, “Take it wherever you go!”
Other members of the Marvel franchise have reached out to Bridger, as well as actress Anne Hathaway.
Bridger saved his 4-year-old sister by jumping between her and a German shepherd mix. The family said in a statement that the dog “leaped and latched onto Bridger’s cheek.” The boy required 90 stitches.
His family shared that when Bridger’s father asked him why he did it, he responded, “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.”
