Two Latino restaurant owners are commending the job President Trump has done battling the coronavirus and said he could overwhelmingly claim the all-important demographic voting block in 2020.
After Trump toured a Honeywell International Manufacturing Plant in Arizona, Betty and Jorge Rivas, who own Sammy’s Mexican Grill in Phoenix, said Latinos across the country support Trump’s presidency and that many, if not all, will vote for him in November.
“Mr. President, we thank you very much,” Jorge Rivas said. “I think you’re doing a great job, and I think we represent a lot of the Latino community that is very proud of the job that you’re doing. And I think most of us, or all of us, all of the Latinos are going to vote for you because we think … you’re doing a very good job.”
Betty Rivas then turned her back to the crowd to reveal a “Keep America Great” logo woven into her denim jacket. Trump asked her if she would like to say a few words.
“Muchas gracias, Señor Presidente,” said Rivas, addressing the president mostly in Spanish. She added, “Latinos love Trump.”
Trump commended the couple, who were harassed in February after they were pictured sitting behind Trump at a campaign rally, for feeding more than 150 people in assisted living situations in the greater Tuscon area.
The president was in Arizona for the first time since many parts of the country were placed on lockdown in March. He toured the Honeywell manufacturing plant, where millions of protective N95 masks are being produced.
