SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The University of Texas at San Antonio has been awarded a $640,000 federal grant to help economically disadvantaged students pursue science careers.
UTSA announced the five-year grant from the National Science Foundation Tuesday. The funding will create a scholarship program to increase the number of students who complete undergraduate degrees in biology, chemistry or physics. Recipients can get up to $10,000 per year for four years.
A UTSA program spokesman says the effort to educate more students in science, technology, engineering and math is critical to the economic well-being of the nation.
