Trump praised by Hungarian prime minister

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Saturday praised a “valiant” Donald Trump, saying the Republican nominee had proposed security policies that Europe must adopt as well.

During remarks in Romania, the right-wing Hungarian leader tied increased security threats to increased migration, according to Reuters. Trump has called for building a wall to stop immigration from Mexico and wants to suspend immigration from countries that breed terrorism.

Orban has been an outspoken opponent of Europe’s resettlement policies.

“I am not a Donald Trump campaigner,” he said in the televised speech. “I never thought I would ever entertain the thought that, of the open options, he would be better for Europe and for Hungary,” Orban said.

Orban praised Trump’s call to create “the best intelligence-gathering organization in the world,” saying Europe needs better intelligence too.

And, he applauded Trump’s notion of not attempting to force democracy on other countries where it isn’t feasible.

“The second thing, said this valiant American presidential candidate, is to abandon the policy of exporting democracy. I could not have said it more precisely,” Orban said. “If we keep prioritizing democracy over stability in regions where we are unlikely to succeed with that, we will create instability, not democracy.”
