Lack of support for recalling Md. officials charged with crimes

A Prince George’s County delegate to the Maryland General Assembly says her proposal to allow voters to decide on whether they can recall elected officials charged with crimes isn’t going forward.

Democratic Del. Barbara A. Frush told The Gazette that the bill is “not happening.” She said the legislation didn’t have support during a recent committee hearing.

Prince George’s County Councilwoman Leslie Johnson has been charged by the FBI of witness and evidence tampering in a corruption investigation of her husband, then-County Executive Jack Johnson. Under current law, she remains on the council and cannot be removed unless she is found guilty.
