George Clooney criticized President Trump in a speech in France on Friday and urged the rest of the world not to let hate win in politics.
The actor was accepting an honorary Cesar award Friday, the French equivalent of the Academy Awards, and used the speech as a platform to critique Trump’s policies. While never mentioning Trump by name, Clooney said he’s harming relationships with American allies.
“The actions of this president have caused alarm and dismay amongst our allies and given considerable comfort to our enemies,” Clooney said, according to Fox News. “The fault is not really his (because fear was already present). He merely exploited it, and rather successfully.”
It was the first of what is sure to be a number of anti-Trump speeches from Hollywood celebrities this weekend. The Oscars are set to take place on Sunday and many actors and celebrities have used the pulpit of awards shows to criticize Trump during the last month.
Clooney said “citizens of the world” must work “harder and harder not to let hate win,” Fox reported.
