London man charged after trespassing Buckingham Palace property

A London man was charged Thursday for trespassing onto Buckingham Palace grounds by scaling the wall around the royal residence.

Officials said 41-year-old Dennis Hennessy hopped the perimeter late Wednesday and ran loose on the property for seven minutes before he was apprehended by officers, according to a BBC report.

Hennessy was charged with trespass on a protected site and criminal damage, though BBC did not state what damage the suspect left to the scene.

He is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Friday.

The British estate is home to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. The grounds are rarely trespassed in comparison to America’s White House, where fence jumpers have made a number of attempts in recent months to enter the president’s residence.
