Hugs and interactions with characters returning to Disney parks

After years of empty arms, guests at Disney parks will finally be able to give their favorite characters hugs again.

Visitors at Walt Disney World and Disneyland will soon be permitted to interact, hug, and get autographs from Mickey Mouse and all his friends.

Disney’s parks are slated to relax their COVID-19 protocols regarding character interactions as soon as April 18.

“As early as April 18, we will start reintroducing traditional character greetings at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as aboard Disney Cruise Line,” said Shawn Slater, a senior communications manager at Disney Live Entertainment, in a statement. “That’s right! Very soon, you will once again be able to hug Mickey Mouse, get an autograph from Mulan, and share a laugh with Goofy. We know many of you have missed these special moments, and your Disney character friends have missed you, too!”

The announcement comes after Disney World’s Festival of Fantasy Parade made its return just two weeks ago.

Disneyland’s famous marching band is also expected to make a return on April 22, according to the company.

Although major elements of the guest experience are returning to its parks, Disney is not lifting all COVID-19 restrictions. Guests over the age of 2 are still required to wear face masks on buses and monorails. Masks are expected indoors at Florida parks for guests who are not fully vaccinated, and they are recommended for guests in California.

Disney encourages all guests to be fully vaccinated.
