Trump gaining on Clinton in latest daily tracking poll

Donald Trump has gained on Hillary Clinton over the last week, and is now just 4 points behind her with 10 days to go before the election.

Clinton leads Trump 48-44, according to a Washington Post/ABC News national tracking poll released Friday, which reflects sentiment on Wednesday. That reflects three straight days of improvement for Trump, who was behind Clinton 50-38 just four days earlier.

In a hypothetical two-way contest, Clinton is 5 points ahead of Trump, 50 to 45 percent.

Trump’s largest gains came from independents, who supported the Republican nominee by a 12 point margin, 49 to 37 percent, after Clinton narrowly won the group last week.

Despite the shift in likely voter preferences, about 6 and 10 still expect Clinton to win the election. However, just 50 percent of Trump’s supporters think that the votes will be counted properly, and 70 percent of Trump supporters think voter fraud is common, while just over 10 percent of Clinton backers said the same thing.

The cellphone and landline poll of 1,109 was conducted Oct. 23-26, 2016 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 points. Thirty-seven percent of people polled identified as Democrats, 28 percent Republicans, and 29 percent independents.
