Reid will huddle with Sanders on Thursday

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid will huddle with Bernie Sanders in the Capitol on Thursday, in the midst of growing pressure on Sanders to drop his campaign for the Democratic nomination.

A top Democratic aide confirmed the meeting will take place in Reid’s office. No other Democratic leaders are expected to attend.

Reid this week has declined to publicly call for Sanders to abandon his bid, despite the mathematical reality that Hillary Clinton has enough delegates to win the nomination outright. Sanders is an Independent senator representing Vermont who caucuses and votes with Democrats.

“I’ve said and I’ll continue to say Bernie Sanders is going to make decisions on his own,” Reid told reporters Tuesday.

Reid told reporters last month he was in frequent contact with Sanders, and at one point asked him to condemn violence by his supporters at the Nevada Democratic Convention. Sanders has mostly disregarded the advice of Democratic leaders.

He told supporters Tuesday night he plans to stay in the race until the July convention.
