Lawyer charged with embezzlement

A Prince William County lawyer has been charged with one count of embezzlement and four counts of forgery for stealing his clients’ money, Prince William County police said.

Stephen Thomas Conrad, 40, who lives in Purcellville in Loudoun County, forged his clients’ signatures on insurance and civil claims and pocketed settlement money after he represented the couple following a car crash in 2001, according to charging documents.

Conrad is in custody in Prince William County on $1 million bond. – Stephen Hicks

Bank robbed in Alexandria

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a bank robbery that happened Tuesday.

A man wearing a blue Dallas Cowboys baseball cap entered the BB&T Bank at 4999 Seminary Road, approached the teller and demanded money. The victim complied and the man ran from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

There were no injuries.

He is described as a white or Hispanic male, in his early 30s, about 5-foot-8 inches to 5-foot-10 inches, with a moustache and short dark hair.

Officer safe following botched robbery

An off-duty D.C. police officer and his girlfriend were unharmed in a botched robbery attempt Tuesday night.

The two were walking near 12th and S streets around midnight when two armed men approached them, Metropolitan Police said. The off-duty officer identified himself as a member of the Metropolitan Police Department and at least one suspect fired shots. The officer shot back but no one was hit, the MPD reported. – Stephen Hicks
