New York woman convicted in bank robberies

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A western New York woman is admitting her role in a series of bank robberies.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 48-year-old Sheila Cassata of the Buffalo suburb of Amherst pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court.

Prosecutors say Cassata was arrested in January after driving a co-defendant to three different banks, knowing he was going to rob them.

Robbery charges are pending against the co-defendant, Michael Mitchell. He’s pleaded not guilty.

Authorities suspect the three robberies are related to 22 other robberies that began in April last year.
