Republicans narrow list for 2024 national convention host to four cities

The Republican National Committee has narrowed its list of contenders for the 2024 national convention down to four cities.

The cities under consideration are Milwaukee, Nashville, Pittsburgh, and Salt Lake City, the Washington Examiner confirmed. The RNC’s site selection committee will evaluate bids and meet with representatives from the cities.

“The Republican National Committee is grateful for and appreciative of the overwhelming interest from cities across the country to host the 2024 Republican National Convention,” RNC chief of staff Richard Walters said in a statement. “We’ll continue the process, review bids, and communicate with potential hosts to hear more about what their cities have to offer.”

Party officials are set to visit each of the candidates in the coming months as they deliberate on which city should host the convention. They are aiming to narrow the list down to three cities during that time.

The committee for selecting the site was formed during the RNC’s meeting in Nashville last summer.

Pittsburgh and Milwaukee, which hosted the scaled-back and mostly virtual Democratic National Convention in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic, are in swing states Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, respectively. By contrast, Nashville and Salt Lake City are located in states that favor Republican candidates.
