Bomb threat grips DCA

A bomb threat involving an arriving passenger jet froze all takeoffs and landings at Reagan National Airport for 20 minutes on Sunday afternoon, the FBI confirmed.

All 44 passengers, as well as crewmembers, were safe after U.S. Airways flight 2596 from Dayton, Ohio, landed in a secure area of the airport.

The threat was made at the ticket counter in Dayton; the person who alleged a bomb was on board the flight is in custody and is being investigated, FBI spokeswoman Katherine Schweit said.

Passengers were interviewed on Sunday while FBI experts searched the plane for a bomb.

Because the plane was closer to D.C. than Dayton when the threat was made, officials allowed the plane to continue its course.
