SEE IT: Ukrainian veterinarian praised as hero for rescuing wounded animals

A Ukrainian veterinarian is being praised for traveling throughout the war-weary nation to rescue animals caught in the fighting.

Jakub Kotowicz, 32, has reportedly saved more than 60 dogs and 200 cats across three convoys from Lviv amid the crossfire of the Russian invasion.

The veterinarian entered Ukraine after he joined a caravan from the Polish border city of Przemysl, according to a report.

One of the animals rescued by Kotowicz was a dog named Vira.

He saved her after she took a bullet to the spine, the report noted.

Kotowicz also helped Sasha, a pygmy goat whose legs are deformed, get to safety.

The veterinarian wishes to adopt the goat and use assets from his organization to save animals trapped in Ukraine, he said.

He wants to buy another ambulance and redesign a pizza store into a location for the animals and a supply hub, according to Kotowicz.

Although several of the animals had to be put down as a result of their wounds, a great many have been sent to new homes throughout Europe, the report noted.

“All the cats are very stressed, the journey from Lviv is one day and we crossed the border with a diplomatic pass but the queue from Ukraine was very long,” Kotowicz said.

“We are preparing the animals for an adoption process. Sometimes the animals which are in very poor condition will be with us for two or three months. Some people came here and were asking if we had their cat.”
