A man was killed while crossing the street near a Wheaton shopping center and another pedestrian was struck and killed in a Springfield-area crash Saturday evening.
The Wheaton crash happened shortly after 10:20 p.m., when an adult man tried to cross Veirs Mill Road mid-block, near the Randolph Crossing Shopping Center between Randolph Road and Gridley Road, according to Montgomery County police.
The man was struck in the westbound lanes by a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, then hit again by a dark-colored SUV that did not stop, police said.
Police are trying to identify the man who was killed. The man is Hispanic, between 35 and 50 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall and 170 pounds. He has black hair and a moustache. He was wearing a blue jacket, a blue checkered button-down shirt and black shoes.
The Chevrolet driver, 47-year-old Patrick Hughley, of Silver Spring, was unharmed, police said.
Anyone with information about the pedestrian’s identity or the SUV that fled is asked to call police at 301-840-2435.
In the Springfield crash, Fairfax County police said 22-year-old Michael Henly, of Fairfax Station, was killed when he stepped in front of a vehicle while crossing Silverbrook Road near Crosspointe Drive at about 6 p.m.
He was hit by a 2010 GMC Acadia driven by a 36-year-old Fairfax Station man, then struck again by a 2005 Chrysler minivan driven by a 46-year-old Fairfax Station man, police said.
Both drivers, whose names were not released, remained at the scene and were not injured.
Police said the crash remains under investigation, but neither speed nor alcohol is thought to have contributed to the collision. No charges have been filed against either driver.
The crashes come after a Silver Spring man was struck and killed while waiting for a bus in Wheaton earlier Saturday.
