Priebus: ‘Ridiculous’ to give Clinton a pass on birtherism

The same threshold used to convict ordinary Americans should be enough to do the same to Hillary Clinton when it comes to the issue of President Obama’s birth certificate, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Sunday, adding that it was “ridiculous” to say Clinton didn’t participate in spreading rumors.

“People get convicted every single day with circumstantial evidence that is enough to tip the scale,” Priebus told CBS host John Dickerson. “And by the preponderance of evidence before us, Hillary Clinton or her campaign were definitely involved in this issue. We can’t keep saying it’s not true. That’s ridiculous.”

“There are enough media people out there claiming that’s not true, as if it’s some fiction. It’s not a fiction. It’s a truth,” Priebus said. “She’s denying it. That’s ridiculous … Her campaign manager was apologizing on CNN three days ago for it.”

Priebus argued that Donald Trump investigated the issue over the years because it was something that people were interested in and asked about, and that he had never been as calculating as Clinton.

“This is my opinion,” Priebus said. “I don’t think Donald Trump was thinking about 2016 in 2011. It was an issue he was interested in. It was an issue I believe, and that a preponderance of the evidence shows, Hillary Clinton started it. And after getting the issue resolved, he proclaimed on Friday that he believed the president was born in America.”
