Citing health complications with his baby, due in October, Wisconsin Rep. Sean Duffy announced via his Facebook account that he would be resigning from Congress.
“Recently, we’ve learned that our baby … will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications, including a heart condition,” Duffy said via Facebook. “With much prayer, I have decided that this is the right time for me to take a break from public service in order to be the support my wife, baby and family need right now.”
Duffy indicated that Sept. 23 would be his last day in Congress where he represents the 7th District of Wisconsin as a member of the Republican Party.
Duffy, 47, and his wife Rachel Campos-Duffy, also 47, have been married since 1999 and have eight children in addition to the baby due this fall. Campos-Duffy is well known for her work on Fox News, as well as her previous appearance on the The Real World: San Francisco in 1994. Sean Duffy also appeared on The Real World, starring in the 1997 season, which took place in Boston. The two met during a taping of Real World/Road Rules Challenge, where Rachel described their encounter as “love at first sight.” She said of the romantic reality television experience, “We met on a train and the first moment we saw each other was on television. We’ve been together ever since. It’s kind of cool.”
Duffy has served in Congress since 2011. He won a seat during the 2010 midterms amid a sweep of GOP victories that soundly reclaimed the House of Representatives for the Republican Party. Duffy served as a member of the Financial Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Budget & Joint Economic Committee. Duffy, a Roman Catholic, is also outspoken in his pro-life views, having sponsored several bills protecting unborn children from abortion.
