Sen. Ron Wyden launched an attempt Wednesday afternoon to copy the viral success of the teenager trying to win a year’s worth of Wendy’s chicken nuggets in drawing attention to President Trump’s unreleased tax returns.
Carter Wilkerson, 16, has received 2.7 million retweets and unmeasurable attention for accepting a challenge from Wendy’s to get 18 million retweets and earn a year’s worth of free chicken nuggets.
On Wednesday, Wyden sought to emulate his success by asking Trump on Twitter if he would release his tax returns if his tweet received 18 million retweets.
The Democratic senator’s stunt appeared headed for success early on. His tweet earned the better part of 1,000 retweets within half an hour of being posted.
.@realdonaldtrump if this gets 18 million retweets, will you release your tax returns?

Wyden, who represents Oregon and is the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, has long sought to get Trump’s tax returns released to the public. He is slated to speak at Saturday’s Tax March in Washington protesting Trump and calling on him to release the returns.
Members of Congress have taken note of Wilkerson’s viral success. On Tuesday, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., gave the teen a boost in his campaign.
