Hillary Clinton’s former communications director said she would “ankle dive” at the former secretary of state to keep her from running for president again.
Jennifer Palmieri sat for an interview at The Wrap’s Power Women breakfast in Washington, D.C., on Thursday morning. Palmieri worked for Clinton during the former first lady’s 2016 presidential run.
“If Hillary Clinton ran for office again, I would do an ankle dive at the door and not allow her to do it because I love her too much,” Palmieri said. “I want her to be the president, but she is going to be the woman that showed us that it is all broken.”
Clinton struggled to come across as authentic and capable during the election, even though Clinton billed herself as capable of performing the job just like a man.
“We set out to prove that it didn’t matter that Hillary was a woman, right? We set out to prove that she could do the job in the same way as it has always been done, which means as a man has always done it,” Palmieri said. “We basically were, like, forcing her, jamming her into an ill-fitting suit that was not made for her.”
After the election, Palmieri wrote a book informed by her experience in the 2016 election called Dear Madam President addressed to the future first woman president.
