Colorado authorities issued an evacuation order to 19,400 residents in Boulder on Saturday due to a wildfire threatening the area.
The NCAR fire has spread to approximately 200 acres as of Sunday morning, and no injuries or damaged buildings have been reported. A total of 1,629 residents, 699 housing units, and 836 buildings have been evacuated so far, Boulder Fire-Rescue spokesperson Marya Washburn said in a Sunday press briefing.
The cause of the NCAR fire is still unknown and is under investigation by the sheriff‘s department. Roughly 21% of the fire has been contained and is planned to be corralled into the snow, Incident Commander Mike Smith said in the briefing.

“So as we work through the day today, we’re going to have about 110 people currently is what we’re going to have staffed,” Smith said. “We’re going to continue to work with retardant, we’ll have two fixed-wing air tankers overhead, as well as a helicopter.”
Maps showing which areas are safe are available for residents to check throughout the day, Washburn said. Current evacuations will be reexamined throughout the day, and changes will probably not be made until 6 p.m. Sunday night, Smith said.
