Former White House press secretary Joe Lockhart alleged that President Trump views white people as more “important” than minorities.
Lockhart, who served as press secretary in the Clinton administration for nearly two years, made the remark during a Friday morning appearance on CNN’s New Day.
The conversation, which also featured Errol Louis and Rachael Bade, discussed how the president supposedly became concerned about Hurricane Dorian not when it was approaching Puerto Rico, but when it got closer to Florida.
“There’s no doubt that the president doesn’t view Puerto Rico as part of the United States,” said Lockhart. “He doesn’t view people who didn’t vote for him as important. And he doesn’t view people who aren’t white as important as everyone else. That’s just — it’s that simple.”
“We don’t need any more examples of how he views the world, and that’s unfortunate,” he added. “On the other hand, it is right for him to stay here.”
Trump announced on Thursday that he will no longer to go Poland this weekend because of the strengthening hurricane that could make landfall over Florida over Labor Day Weekend. Vice President Mike Pence will go in the president’s place.
