Gov. Matt Bevin angrily booed at Kentucky Derby as he hails state’s hospitality

Gov. Matt Bevin of Kentucky was booed repeatedly at the Kentucky Derby Saturday.

Bevin, the Republican governor of Kentucky, is the least popular governor in the country, and while participating in his state’s annual horse race met some very public opposition.

Bevin, 52, assumed office back in 2015 but has not been popular in his state. His governorship has been buoyed by strong support for President Trump’s administration, but it is yet to be seen if he can translate that into votes during the next gubernatorial election in the traditionally-red state.

His approval rating has plummeted to the low 30s, and that could be seen by voters’ reactions at the Kentucky Derby, the state’s well-attended and well-watched horse race.
