D.C. extends Circulator east of the river

The District closed down one Circulator route Monday and started a new one that extends across the Anacostia River for the first time. The new line, with six buses, runs from Potomac Avenue Metro in east Capitol Hill to Skyland shopping center and Good Hope Marketplace Shopping Center. The fares cost $1 and riders can get free transfers. It was touted by local officials as a way of connecting one of the city’s poorest areas with jobs in the rest of the city. The city shut down the north-south route that connected the Convention Center to the Southwest Waterfront because of low ridership and is using its buses on the new line. — Kytja Weir
