Liz Cheney fires Satan-inspired zinger at Christian Bale after he thanks the devil for ‘Vice’ insight

Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., hit back at British actor Christian Bale after he credited “Satan” with inspiring his movie portrayal of her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Bale, who won the Golden Globe Award for best actor in a comedy on Sunday for portraying Dick Cheney in the movie “Vice,” also called the former George H.W. Bush defense secretary a “charisma-free asshole” during his acceptance speech.

But Liz Cheney, chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, was quick to respond to the quip on social media.

“Satan probably inspired him to do this, too,” the congresswoman tweeted, sharing a 2008 article reporting how Bale had been arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister.

Bale was detained by Metropolitan Police Service in London that year while promoting “The Dark Knight.” The “Batman” star had reportedly shouted at his mother after she insulted his wife. Bale denied assaulting his family members but cooperated with an investigation. He was never charged, and police eventually dismissed the matter due to “insufficient evidence.”

Cheney was the country’s 46th vice president and served under former President George W. Bush. He left office with low approval ratings, which plummeted in part because of his role in coordinating the Bush administration’s response to the Sept. 11 attacks, including the so-called “War on Terror.”
