‘East Coast Rapist’ reportedly caught in Connecticut

The man authorities believe is the “East Coast Rapist,” who attacked at least 17 women over a 14-year span, has been apprehended in Connecticut, the Hartford Courant reports.

The paper says a man, whose name has not been released, was caught in New Haven.

The sexual assaults, which have been linked by DNA evidence, have been taking place along the East Coast since 1997.

Attacks have been reported in Virginia, Maryland, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The most recent was the rape of two teenagers in Dale City, Va., on Halloween night in 2009.

A task force launched a campaign this week to apprehend him, posting the sketches of the suspect on billboards and creating a website, eastcoastrapist.com.
